On the topic of offside reviews.
The common idea is forget about skate on the ice and use the plane of the blue line, but that would just push the conversation to another millimeter, and would probably increase challenges.
Instead, keep the live call by the linesmen as it is currently, but require a challenge to use the plane of the blue line idea. So there is a measurable increase in difficulty of a challenge, without having judgement like the 5 second ref decision or warroom influence.
Interesting idea. I have heard people talk about using the plane, but I agree with you that it would just change the specifics of the challenge, not the frequency or nature of them. I’d get rid of it, but I doubt that will happen. Thanks for writing in!
